Carmelo Mantione earned his Piano Diploma at the age of twenty-one with full marks, honors, and special mention, studying under the guidance of Maestro V. Balzani. He subsequently obtained a Master’s Degree (Diploma Accademico di II livello) cum laude in the Interpretative-Compositional stream under Maestro Ennio Pastorino (a pupil of Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli) at the “A. Peri” Institute in Reggio Emilia. Between 2003 and 2004, he further specialized at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena under Maestro Joaquin Achucarro, receiving a Diploma of Merit and a scholarship. He has also participated in masterclasses led by An Li Pang, F. Scala, and P. Lachert. In 2005, he continued his piano studies in Poland at the Bydgoszcz Academy of Music with J. Godziszewski and W. Ronowska, followed by the Advanced Piano Course with Bruno Canino at the Accademia Unda Maris in Palermo (2007/08). ​In parallel with his piano performance career, he pursued musicological studies, graduating cum laude in 2007 in DAMS (Disciplines of Arts, Music, and Performing Arts) from the University of Palermo. After initial composition studies with A. Lo Presti and M. Leonardi, he earned both Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Composition (2015 and 2017) with full marks, honors, and special mention from the "V. Bellini" Conservatory in Palermo, studying under L. Capister and M. Betta. In 2013, he was selected by a jury chaired by Nicola Piovani to participate in the "Compositori in clausura" competition at the Teatro Valle in Rome, organized by Giovanni Sollima and broadcast live on RadioRai3. ​His chamber and orchestral works have been performed at prestigious venues and festivals, including the Teatro Massimo in Palermo (Nuove Musiche 2016), Palazzo Steri, the XXXII Orestiadi di Gibellina, the Florio Festival in Favignana, and the "Cherubini" Conservatory in Florence. In 2020, his work Flumen for flute and guitar was recorded by Iwona Glinka and Angelos Botsis for the album "Heth," distributed by Phasma Music through the Naxos circuit. In 2025, his String Trio was premiered by the Trio Parmigianino at the Intersezioni Festival in Catania. ​As a pianist, he has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician across Europe, including Vienna (Italian Cultural Institute), Bydgoszcz, Szafarnia (Chopin’s House), Lubostroń, Schwerin (Verfemte Musik Festival), Milan, Bologna, Florence, and the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. He has received critical acclaim, notably from Professor Gian Paolo Minardi in the Gazzetta di Parma. His competition successes include the "Scriabin Prize" and the "Best Italian Pianist" award at the Ibla World Music Competition (2006), as well as numerous first prizes in national competitions in Bari, Palermo, Messina, and Catania. ​Since 2016, he has conducted the "G. Lo Nigro" Polyphonic Choir. Between 2018 and 2020, he studied conducting with L. Capister and co-founded the Orchestra da Camera del Parnaso. He also performs regularly with the Trio Palmòs (clarinet, cello, and piano). In 2022, he earned a Master’s Degree cum laude in Organ under the guidance of Diego Cannizzaro. ​In 2025, he began a collaboration with the Trio Parmigianino (Siskovic, Barilli, Contini), both as a composer and performing with them in a quartet formation. In 2024, he won the competition for the PhD program in Music History and Analysis at the Palermo Conservatory, where he is currently a doctoral candidate.
